Players from across WA descended on Manjimup for the annual Muir’s Invitation Fours at the Manjimup Bowling Club. It was a strong competition on both days, going down to the last round with five teams still in the running to win the event. The Manjimup team, skippered by Paul Wood with Eric Tenardi, Arthur Cousins and Robert Kammann, scored 15 points and 28 shots up resulting in winning the Muirs Invitational Fours. Second place went to a Pemberton team, skippered by Felix Ditri with Jamie Conway, Peter Roberts and Chris Vellios that registered a final score of 15 points and 24 shots up. Third place went to an Inglewood/Manjimup team, skippered by “Big Bird” Jeff Hynes with Rod Moyle, Trevor Martin and Phil Hampson with finished with a final score of 15 points and 6 shots up. Manjimup Bowling Club Chairman Pat Martin said the event was a great success and it would not have been possible without the help of the organisers and sponsors. “Many thanks go to Captain Damian Lloyd, the match committee and the ladies committee who all worked hard to make this one of the most prestigious bowling events on the South West calendar,” she said. Mrs Martin also thanked Kevin Hargrave, Trevor Martin, Robert Kammann and the greens committee for the tireless hours on and around the club. “Many, many thanks to Captain Damian, as a Bunbury team did not turn up on Wednesday, resulting in Damian pulling out of the eventual winning team to form a local team, so the event did not have a bye. “Thanks also to major sponsors Muir’s for their continued sponsorship along with the other support sponsors. As usual events do not just happen and without Muir’s Manjimup, as the major sponsor, an event like this would not be possible. “In a town and club this small, the sponsorship is unbelievable and thanks go to our minor sponsors; Bendoti Exporters, Cape to Cape Financial Services, Dunning Investments, Elders Insurance Manjimup, Coldpower Refrigeration, Manjimup Glass Service, Manjimup Concrete Manufacturers, Manjimup Motor Inn, Southern Forest Machinery, Hastie Waste, Stans Manjimup Farm Machinery, Warren District Transport, Tyrepower Manjimup, Johnsons Food Services, Acton Belle Property South West, Manjimup Nesagency, John and Lynette Ryan and Sons, Balbarrup Farms, Merv and JulieEast and Sons, Dianne and Jim Bogoias and Sons and Pemberley Wines.” Following on from the success of the Muir’s Invitation Fours, the Manjimup Country Club will be conducting their annual Manjimup Mitre 10 and Retravision 2024 Doc Ryan Memorial Corporate Bowls. Qualifying games will be played on Wednesdays and Thursdays over four weeks starting on Wednesday 7 February and Thursday 8 February. The finals and grudge matches will be held this year on Thursday 7 March 2024. Corporate Bowls organizer Mike Cully said the corporate bowls was “a fun, social event that anyone, regardless of bowling experience, could get involved in”. “Basically, the competition is a series of fun nights providing employees the opportunity to mix socially and enjoy themselves with employees from other business houses, social clubs or just any group getting together to have a go,” he said. Mr Cully also said anyone, whether they were good, bad or a non-bowler, has the chance to win a barbecue each week of the four weeks of competition thanks to Manjimup Mitre 10 and Retravision.
