Manjimup fire: Watch and act warning in place as residents urged to leave if possible
Residents in East Manjimup are urged to leave their homes if possible as firefighters battle to control a blaze in the State’s South West.
A watch and act warning has been given by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, urging residents in the danger area to leave if they are able to as the fire is posing a “possible threat to lives and homes”.
The bushfire is bound within the area of Muir Highway to the north, Deeside Coast Road to the east, Kin Kin Rd to the south and Wheatley Coast Road to the west.
The fire is burning in a west south-westerly direction.
DBCA has warned with conditions changing the fire is posing a potential threat to safety and residents should leave if it is safe to do so.
Those who cannot or are choosing not to leave are urged prepare their shelter by keeping doors and windows at the property closed and turning off evaporative air-conditioners, but should try to keep water running through the system.
DBCA warns anyone who is trying to actively defend against the blaze to not rely on mains water pressure as it may be affected.
They say the property needs to have access to an independent water supply and to start patrolling the residence to put out spot fires.
DBCA urges anyone who is not home but lives in the affected area to not return to their residence as it is too dangerous with the changing conditions.
