The Manjimup Rovers women’s side were defeated 3-1 at home against Busselton City at the weekend in the South West Soccer Association’s Ladies Reserves competition. The Rovers were second last on the ladder in the lead up to the match on Sunday, and Busselton City were in last place. The home side went into the game looking to claim their second win of the year, but the visitors hit the board first to take an early lead. Busselton’s second goal came in unfortunate circumstances when a pass back free kick was awarded in front of the goals. The entire Rovers team lined up on the goal line to try and stop the oncoming shot, but the ball snuck through to take the score to 2-0. Manjimup’s first goal came when a through-ball from Delyth Phillips Johns found striker Alicia Gluck, who broke through the middle and put the ball in the bottom corner to get the score to 2-1. But Busselton scored again to break the hearts of the home side and seal the match. In the men’s match, the Rovers were beaten 8-2 by the ladder-leading Harvey Hawks Two.
