The Manjimup Rovers men suffered their second loss in a row at the weekend, going down to the first-placed Harvey Hawks Two. The Rovers went into the clash in fifth place on the ladder and were unable to stay with the Hawks, eventually going down 5-1. The loss was the Manjimup side’s second in as many weeks, having loss to Eaton-Dardanup the week previous. The two losses bring to an end an impressive purple patch for the Rovers, who had won six of their previous matches heading into the clash with Eaton-Dardanup. In Sunday’s match, both teams fielded 10 players and things were relatively even early before Harvey struck twice to take the lead. Jamie Mair was able to get one back for the Rovers to leave the score at 2-1 at the break, but the Hawks netted another three in the second half to take a convincing win. Meanwhile, the Manjimup ladies team suffered their eighth loss of the season on Sunday when they lost to Blackwood United. Despite the reliable and unrelenting efforts of star players Grace Gray and Delyth Phillips Johns, the Rovers were never a match for United, losing 7-0. Both sides will have a week off this week before returning to the pitch. The men will play Australind on August 14, while the women will host Dalyellup FC.
