Matthew Ivan Ockenden to be sentenced for assaulting woman

A Manjimup man will be sentenced in June for assaulting a woman at her home in the lower South West town before damaging her bedroom wall and window in a fit of aggression. Matthew Ivan Ockenden pleaded guilty to three charges including common assault, criminal damage of property and aggravated burglary and commit in Manjimup Magistrates Court on Thursday. The court heard on September 12 Ockenden and his then-partner were at her home in Manjimup when an argument between the two broke out. The pair were in the bedroom at the time the assault took place before he also damaged the wall and window in the room before leaving. Ockenden pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary after he knew there was another person in the residence at the time. The sentencing for the common assault and criminal damage charges was delayed until June 9 while Ockenden completes a psychological evaluation and a pre-sentencing report is completed. For the aggravated burglary and commit charge Ockenden will face Bunbury District Court for sentencing on March 30. The maximum penalty a person can receive for a common assault charge is 18 months jail or $18,000 fine.
