Motorsport Australia brings fourth round of WA Rally Championship to Manjimup

The streets of Manjimup and the dirt roads of the Southern Forests were hot with burning rubber, as 40 competing duos — including 34 State championship contestants and four clubman masters and cup competitors — sped through in a bid to claim the 2023 Karri Rally Championship. Local racers Craig Rando and Scott Beckwith were named the overall winners after the rally competition was halted at the sixth of the planned eight stages, due to a crash during the sixth stage, which took officials time to clear. Rando and Beckwith are currently in second place in the Dunlop WA Motorsport Australia Rally Championship, while current leaders WA’s Daniel Gonzalez and his co-driver Bernie Webb from NSW came in fourth in Saturday’s rally. West Australian team Alex Rullo and Ben Searcy, with their 2022 Hyundai i20 Rally 2, came second, while another WA duo, Dylan King and Lee Tierney, came third with their 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9. Sam Moody and David Christian took the win for the WA Clubman Cup category, with their Subaru Impreza, while David Smith and Rodger Pedersen claimed victory in the 2WD Championship category, with their Ford Fiesta ST150, with Gerard McGroarty and Kirsty Moore coming second, driving the Datsun 1600. The next round of the championship will take place in Chidlow for the Safari Rally on September 30, before concluding in Collie on October 28 with the Experts Cup.
