Manjimup police have welcomed a new team member on board as they usher in the new year.

First Class Const. Dan Abbott, who joined the team on New Year’s Eve, has come from a position in Broome.

Having travelled 2500km for a tree change, Const. Abbott said there were a lot of differences between working in Broome and Manjimup, aside from the temperature.

“The work pace is not as hectic,” he said. “Regional is good because you get to deal with your work and it stays your work.”

Const. Abbott said despite not having worked with everyone due to the festive period he had enjoyed working with his new team.

He said he had applied for a job in Manjimup because he owns a house in the region and wanted somewhere his two children could finishing school in one place.

“My kids are entering high school soon, so I want them to do it in one place,” he said.

Const. Abbott said he was passionate about preventing burglaries and other property crime.

“I don’t like people’s homes being broken into, it really annoys me,” he said.
