Northcliffe celebrates 25th year of Bibbulmun Track with special photo prize ceremony

Northcliffe is celebrating the Bibbulmun Track’s 25th anniversary with an exhibition of photographs that encapsulates its past 25 years. The exhibition at the The Painted Tree Gallery in the Northcliffe Information & Visitor Centre features 27 photos that represent the Bibbulmun Track over the past 25 years in a competition that will have its prize ceremony on August 21. More than 100 entries were received from 26 entrants. Northcliffe CRC manager Graham Evans said the exhibition had been in the works for the past year as the 25th anniversary approached. “We contacted the Bibbulmun Foundation about 12 months ago as they prepared for their 25-year celebrations,” he said. “We got photographer Jenny Stock from Bridgetown to help with the judging of the photos.” He said the final photos chosen “gave a great picture of life on the Bibbulmun” and had a diverse range. “The pictures we got ranged from the everyday cooking and camping to the more spectacular photos of mountain peaks and a view of the sea,” he said. “One photo is called Donated Dunny, which was taken from looking from inside the dunny along the Track.” He said the general exhibition caught a “real good range of experiences that you’ll have on the Bibbulmun Track”. “We got a double rainbow at Schafer Hut and we’ve got really great pictures of what it is like to be on the track, from the gruelling hiking activity to the calm moments you have on the Track,’ he said. Mr Evans said Northcliffe would have special celebrations along with the prize ceremony and expected those walking along the trail to visit. “At our celebration and prize announcement, we’ve got George Kamman from Manjimup speaking and he’s walked the Bibbulmun Track eight times, and all the walkers will be coming into town as they make the 25th birthday walk from Perth to Albany,” he said. “There will be a sausage sizzle for the walkers and guests attending the ceremony, and I think Pemberton and Walpole will be planning something special for the walkers when they come through too.” Anyone that comes through Northcliffe can cast a vote for their favourite picture in the exhibition for the People’s Choice Award.
