Manjin Rec Plaza is holding a driveway trick contest, giving local riders and skaters a chance to win prizes for submitting a video of them performing specified tricks in their driveways.

The tricks that the riders and skaters are required to execute to enter were kept deliberately simple, to allow participants of all skill levels to enter the competition.

Maegan Campbell said the competition was a way of keeping Manjimup’s youth engaged.

“The idea came about in the middle of the COVID-19 restrictions when the skatepark was closed,” she said.

“We were looking for ways to keep the young people engaged and we came across an online competition that Skateboard WA was running and we took their brilliant idea and created a competition that was suitable for our skatepark.”

The videos will be judged by local scooter rider Adam Puffler and staff from the Manjimup Shire Council.

Mr Puffler said the key to filming a good trick was clean execution.

Competition entries open today and close on July 30, with entries to be submitted to the Manjin Rec Plaza via Facebook Messenger or by posting to its Facebook page.
