Roos wallop Imps with 148-point demolition

Boyup Brook have continued their astonishing undefeated streak this year with a monster 148-point stomping of the Imperials at home. The Roos hosted the Imps in heavy rain and completely dominated from the first centre bounce, piling on an early seven goals to one before quarter-time. Boyup Brook barely looked like slowing down throughout the first half as the Imperials did their best to catch them around the muddy ground but were left trailing by 69 points at the major break. However, it was the third quarter where the Roos put on a real masterclass and showed why they are a team to seriously watch this season, kicking 10 goals and keeping their opponents completely scoreless. The Imperials earned another goal and two behinds for their efforts in the final term while Boyup Brook managed another three majors to round out their impressive performance and finish winners at 171-23. The Roos’ Mckenzie Nix was also named the best afield for the Lower South West Football League’s 2021 Belt Up Round. But Boyup Brook had even more to celebrate on the day after also hosting a special fundraiser. The Roos held an event to raise awareness of sarcomas, a rare group of cancers, after one of their junior players was diagnosed with the disease earlier this year. With the help of the charity Sock it to Sarcoma, the junior teams all wore odd socks for their games, while the seniors played in teal and pink. The club said it was a successful day with raffle prizes donated by local businesses and a kitchen bake-up raising more than $1250 to help the player’s family while they travel to Perth for treatment. Boyup Brook, who are sitting just one game behind the also undefeated Bulldogs on the league ladder, will travel to Manjimup on Saturday to face the Tigers while Imperials host Deanmill on Sunday.
