A Manjimup business owner has planted the seed to success after being named in the prestigious 40 under 40 list. Planted Passion founder Neil Miles, 35, was one of an impressive line-up of young movers and shakers across the State highlighted in the annual awards. The Margaret River-born business identity started the gardening service as a sole operator in 2013 but now employs 18 workers and operates in a range of areas including vegetable seedling production and fertiliser product distribution for farmers. Mr Miles expanded to Manjimup in December when he purchased a nursery and 40ha of land in the area to further his horticulture operations. He said he felt “shocked” when hearing his name called for the WA Business News award, which was held with a crowd of 750 people at Crown Perth. “I didn’t overly expect it and obviously the majority of the companies involved were considerably larger than ours and on top of that this is the first time we’ve ever entered anything like this,” he said. Mr Miles said he had big plans for his business’ future in the Southern Forests region. “My first goal is to assist other farmers to become as successful as us and how we do that is with agronomy, fertiliser and support” he said. Mr Miles is also a board member of Southern Forests Food Council and Protected Cropping Australia, as well as a committee member for Warren Cauliflower Group Inc.
