SWSA 2022: Manjimup Rovers men in fifth and women in seventh with two games to play

The Manjimup Rovers men have recorded their first draw of the 2022 South West Soccer Association Division 1 men’s season. The Rovers came from behind at home on Sunday to draw with fourth-placed Dalyellup FC. Manjimup went into the match having recorded a win and a loss in their two previous outings against Dalyellup and got off to a shaky start. The visiting side was able to put the ball in the back of the net twice to lead the Rovers 2-0 at the half. After half time, Manjimup began to work their way back into the match and a Tack Burns brace set up a tense final 20 minutes with the scores locked at 2-2. The draw means the Rovers remain fifth on the ladder and three points behind Dalyellup, with two matches against Australind scheduled to finish the season. In the women’s match, the Rovers went down 2-1 to Dalyellup FC in a shortened game. The Rovers said due to complaints from the visiting team the referee was forced to make the decision to call the game at half time with the pitch deemed unfit to play on. Manjimup – who lost 6-0 to Dalyellup in July – was able to break the deadlock through Alicia Gluck to lead 1-0, but the visitors scored two goals before the game was called off. The Rovers women remain second-last on the ladder and will play the league-leading Hay Park and fourth-placed Australind to finish the season.
