Tourism gongs for SW duos
Two regional businesses have won 2019 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards at a recent awards ceremony in Canberra.
Balingup Heights Hilltop Forest Cottages took out the gold award in the self contained accommodation category, improving on their 2018 bronze award.
“We are obviously super excited for our business, but also really excited for Balingup and the region to receive an award and some recognition on the national scale,” Balingup Heights owner Brian Vanallen said. “It feels a bit unreal to be honest.”
Balingup Heights was inducted into the WA Tourism Awards Hall of Fame in 2019, and has won the self contained accommodation gold award at the WA tourism awards for the past three years.
Holberry House in Nannup won the bronze award in the hosted accommodation category, their first award at a national level.
Owner Louise Stokes said she was humbled to win an award of national significance.
“A win for us is really a win for the whole region and having two properties from the Blackwood River Valley winning at a national level really puts the tourism spotlight on this region,” she said.
“It’s a shout out to businesses in the region and thanks for their support, because in small business you rely on surrounding business to help you.”
Both businesses qualified for the national finals by winning their respective categories at the 2019 Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards.
