The Manjimup community is set to rally behind a good cause once again with the annual Walk for Cancer next month. A number of locals and businesses came together and raised more than $5000 for Cancer Council WA in 2019 by walking nearly 10km from Woolworths to Fonty’s Pool, but the event was cancelled last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Event co-organiser Laura Waistell, who took over running the event with friends Amity Burford and Sharon De Campo two years ago, said she loved seeing people come together for events such as the walk. “I think especially after COVID-19, people just love these types of big community events,” she said. “Cancer affects everybody and there’s a huge community spirit in regional towns to get behind good causes.” This year’s event will see participants walk about 12km from the Manjimup Heritage Park to Deanmill and back again. The event kicks off at 7.30am at the park on Sunday May 23 with a $10 registration, and will finish with a sausage sizzle back at the park.
