WBCA: Boyup Brook to play in grand final after beating Bridgetown by 87 runs

Boyup Brook will be playing against Forestry in the Warren Blackwood Cricket Association grand final this weekend after they had a momentous win over Bridgetown on Saturday afternoon. Bridgetown and Boyup Brook met at the Collier Street grounds after Boyup Brook won the elimination final against Manjimup and Bridgetown lost the qualifying in the previous round. Boyup Brook won the toss and elected to bat first, with captain Braydon Ridley and vice-captain Jacob Maw opening the batting order. Ridley was caught out by Thomas Clynch off a Brendon White ball after making 3 from 13 balls but Maw gave Boyup Brook a running start to their count, scoring 35 from 40 balls before being stumped by Craig Glancy off Hugh Mitchell. Todd Carroll (6) got a few runs in before being caught out by Clynch off another White ball, although it would be the trio of Tristan Mead (22), David Cowan (28) and Scott Tweedie (42) who would help Boyup Brook gain momentum. Mead was eventually out leg before wicket, while Cowan was caught by Josh Allan off Shane Glancy’s bowling and teammate Josh Miller was out for a golden duck. But that was a temporary slowdown for Boyup Brook as Joseph Thompson (11) and Alex Tweedie (47) continued to add to their team’s run count. Boyup Brook run its batting course after the 45th over, with Leigh Clark (1) and Alex Tweedie being called not out and Bridgetown needing to chase Boyup Brook’s 218. Clynch and captain Mitchell started Bridgetown’s batting order, with Mitchell quickly caught out by Mead off a Maw ball, while Clynch was caught by Mead with Ridley bowling. Craig Glancy (21) was able to help Bridgetown narrow Boyup Brook’s lead, as did teammates Mitchell Clothier (28), White (14) and Josh Allan (11). Glancy was eventually caught out, as was Clothier. Bridgetown’s momentum slowed as Shane Glancy (4) was caught out, while Matt Wheatley (4) was run out, leading to Bridgetown’s total of 131. Boyup Brook will go head-to-head against Forestry in the grand final on the weekend.
