A new art exhibition is set to open on Saturday, with the Wild Inspiration artwork displaying some of the best scenery from around the Manjimup area. Palgarup-based painter Barbara Maumill has spent the past year designing and painting the artwork which now hangs in the Manjimup Art Gallery. Ms Maumill said most of the pieces were inspired by the local scenery she saw almost every day in her back garden and at friends’ properties. With a particular fixation on the red-tailed black cockatoo, Ms Maumill said given her close proximity to the bird, she felt she had to include the animal in her exhibit. “I live on five acres in Palgarup and they live in my yard all the time, every morning we walk past them and they throw nuts at us and they interact with you,” she said. “I suppose it is kind of like my spirit animal, I would like to fly like everybody.” Other pieces in the gallery include well-known streets in Manjimup, pristine bushland around the township and the colourful animals which live in the forest. Wild Inspiration is open until April 23, with the official opening on Saturday adhering to COVID-19 protocols.
