Winners announced at Manjimup Photo Club’s Fantastic Fungi event on Thursday night

Manjimup Photo Club has put on another wonderful gallery exhibition for its 2022 Fantastic Fungi competition.

More than 80 people from across the South West region packed out the Manjimup Art Gallery for opening night as winners were announced.

Of a whopping 132 entries, 35 were judged to be the best of the group and displayed on the walls. Independent judges George Stewart and Gary Louth, from Bridgetown Camera Club, declared the selected images as worthy of a 4/5 or higher rating.

“This is a lovely competition and a credit to you and your town,” Mr Stewart said.

Julie Guthridge took out second place in the open class with her photo, Fairyland, and Lee Fontanini’s work was judged highly commended.

In the primary class (12 and under), Xavier Kolan wowed the judges with his first-place image of fungi on a tree and second-place image of red fungi. Harper MacDonald won third place with her photo Funguschungus.

Harrison Barry impressed the judges to win the high school category for his photo, Fungi 1.

Manjimup Photo Club secretary Janet Farr said fungi were chosen as the heart of the event because photographing them challenges the public to understand them.

“Their forms and variety are spectacular, they are the unsung hero of the biosphere,” she said.
