The Sapphires and Comets had a close match on Wednesday night at the Manjimup Indoor Sports Pavilion with the Sapphires narrowly taking the win over the Comets 22-21, pushing the Sapphires to third on the ladder. Sapphires had the lead quick in the first half, due to the work of Agustina Mata and Aysha Peos, with Comets attempting to chase their lead, with points scored by Taizley Krispyn, Charlotte Walker and Ella Drake. However, their efforts were not enough to stop the Sapphires from ending the first half in the lead by five points 13-8. In the beginning of the second half, Sapphires’ Hayley Kilrain and Jade Pedlar scored back-to-back goals to extend the team’s lead, before the Comets began their comeback, including a three-pointer by Taizley Krispyn, as they slowly narrowed the margin. By the end of the match, the two teams were tied until a free throw by Amanda Roberts helped the Sapphires reclaim their lead to win the match by a single point, 22-21. In the other women’s A-grade matches, the Slam Drunks beat the Panthers 44-22 and the Pink Ladies were no match for the Sharks, beating them 45-28. In the women’s B-grade matches, Magpies Orange defeated Saints 27-22, Magpies Blue beat Aus Stars 27-22, and Senators beat Bush Chooks 27-26.
