Bridgetown football star Patrick Farrant hits major milestone of 100 goals in a home and away season

A Bridgetown football star has secured 100 goals in his first Lower South West Football League season, crediting his father and teammates for his success. Patrick Farrant made the move to Bridgetown Football Club during the off-season from Bunbury after moving to the regional town to join his school teacher partner. In his first game for the Bridgetown Bulldogs league side, the 23-year-old booted seven goals in their crushing 24.21 (165) to 8.7 (55) win over a shell-shocked Boyup Brook at Bridgetown Sports Oval. This was only the beginning of an incredible season for the superstar. Managing an average of more than seven goals a game, Farrant quickly became an unstoppable forward force in the Bulldogs’ side. Farrant said it was an incredible feeling to have reached the major milestone. “This was the first time I reached 100 goals ... it feels unreal,” he said. “I couldn’t have done it without the incredible team behind me, nor the support and encouragement of my old man, who also reached 99 goals in a season in his day.” Farrant credited Bridgetown’s midfield in particular for his success including captain Hugh Mitchell, Josh Power and Jack Brigland. It was not an easy task to reach the milestone, with Farrant and his teammates aware 14 goals were required in their final game of the home and away season against Southerners to hit it. “My parents made the trip down from Bunbury for the game ... the team were aware of how close I was to 100 and pushed hard to get me there,” Farrant said. “It was an incredible feeling scoring that 14th goal.” With the impressive milestone under his belt, Farrant was awarded leading goal kicker for the 2023 LSWFL season, making it the fourth year in a row a Bridgetown player secured the coveted title. “This is my first season playing for Bridgetown so I can’t really comment on the team’s success in that area ... but the strength of the team as a whole and the skill of individual players, particularly in the midfield, definitely led to my own success,” Farrant said. Farrant will play in his first grand final this weekend since 2018 when he played in the WAFL colts grand final for Swan Districts. His team will take on Kojonup on September 9 at Boyup Brook Oval at 2.15pm, battling it out to be named premiership winners. “I’m keen ... the team is keen,” he said. “Reward for effort, you know?”
