The Bridgetown-Greenbushes Shire Council has approved a proposed visitor centre service plan for the next five years. At the latest council meeting on June 29, the council carried a motion to approve the Bridgetown-Greenbushes Visitor Centre’s 2023-28 service plan, which sets out initiatives and objectives for the centre to achieve. The plan defines the centre’s role as offering visitors different services, including providing information on attractions, events, retail and local services, booking services for accommodation, events, transport and tours, and information on road conditions and transport options and interpretive information of the shire. The service plan revealed the goals of the centre included promoting Bridgetown and Greenbushes as “the heart and soul of the South West” while also promoting surrounding Southern Forests and Valleys destinations, extending to promotional marketing in the area, upgrading the visitor centre website and collaborating with the Southern Forests area for social media promotion. Other plans noted in the service plan and the proposal brought to the council meeting included having no membership models, creating both a permanent exhibition in the Railway Station venue as well as a flexible gallery space which will generate revenue as a bookable space for functions, events and exhibitions, while also promoting the Jigsaw Gallery as an attraction. It outlines using Bookeasy as an accommodation provider platform and a bid to “attract new accommodation providers” to the platform.
