Historic Dingup House on outskirts of Manjimup to have new owners

A historic 130-year-old property on the outskirts of Manjimup has been sold. Sitting 7.5km east of the townsite on 13.3 acres of land, Dingup House — which is on the Shire of Manjimup’s heritage inventory — was built by farmer Thomas Giblett and his wife Maria in 1870, expanding over the years from three bedrooms into the sprawling eight-bedroom, six-bathroom property it is today. Wheatbelt husband-and-wife Kathy and David Savage purchased it in 2001 and last month sold it to Perth couple Paul and Amy Skinner, with Mrs Savage saying the day it changed hands was “definitely sad”. “We put our heart and soul into it over the 20 years we owned it,” she said. “We’ve done huge renovations in keeping with the character of the place. “A lot has changed ... we saved the house and we saved the barn as well.” Mrs Savage said she was delighted the new owners shared similar values to her and her husband. “They love the history of the place,” she said. “It hasn’t been through too many families; it only went out of the (Giblett) family 28 years ago.” The house currently operates as a bed and breakfast and function venue.
