Lower South West events receive State funding to encourage visitation and add vibrancy in the region

Two Lower South West events will share in $1.15 million of State Government funding intended to increase visitation in the region, create jobs and stimulate the local economies. The 2023 True Grit WA at Linga Longa Estate in Southampton and the 2024 Boyup Brook Country Music Festival are among 65 events across the State to receive more than $5000 each as part of Tourism Western Australia’s 2023-24 Regional Events Scheme. Member for Warren-Blackwood Jane Kelsbie said thanks to the scheme, six key events across Warren-Blackwood will receive funding of between $5000 and $40,000. “Regional events encourage visitation, add vibrancy, and provide valuable media exposure for the South West,” she said. “A huge thank you to all the local community groups and organisations who work hard to put these events together, and congratulations on securing funding in the latest round of the Regional Events Scheme.” Tourism Minister Roger Cook said the WA Government, through Tourism WA and Royalties for Regions, was proud to support these 65 events across the State. “Regional events provide an opportunity for local, interstate and international visitors to go beyond city limits and experience the unique features of each of our State’s wonderful regions,” he said. “These events also play an important role in attracting visitors, stimulating local economies, and adding vibrancy to our dynamic regional communities.” Regional Development Minister Don Punch said regional events were back on the calendar across all regions of Western Australia, celebrating each area’s unique culture, art and cuisine, and delighting visitors and locals. “Events showcase the talent, skills and culture of WA’s regional areas while encouraging community engagement and boosting local economies. “Whether it’s absorbing ancient Aboriginal culture through the Karijini Experience in the Pilbara, marvelling at nature’s beauty at the Nannup Flower and Garden Festival, or enjoying authentic music at the Boyup Brook Country Music Festival, I encourage everyone to get out into our State’s spectacular regions and have an unforgettable WA experience.” This round of funding is in addition to the already announced multi-year funding commitments already in place for other events across the region, including the Nannup Flower and Garden Festival, Manjimup Cherry Harmony Festival, Nannup Music Festival, and the RAC Karri Valley Triathlon.
