Boyup Brook secured their third win of the season against Southerners last Saturday during round seven of the Lower South West Football League season. In crisp autumn conditions at Pemberton Oval, both teams started evenly matched with good ground contests and forward advances. Boyup Brook led early, 3.2 (20) to 1.1 (7) at the end of the first quarter. The late first-quarter goal scored by Southerners’ Cameron Hort seemed to give the homeside the boost they needed, scoring the first two goals to start the second quarter to come within a point. However, an unselfish play by Mckenzi Nix in the Roos’ forward 50 enabled Mathew Michael to break Southerners’ momentum, marking the beginning of a three-goal streak. Despite the Roos’ best defensive efforts, Southerners’ scored another two goals to win the quarter, bringing the margin back down to six points. Boyup Brook dominated the third quarter, scoring five goals and five behinds in next to Southerners two goals. Both teams fought fiercely in the final quarter with some incredible midfield performances by both teams, however, Southerners were not able to decrease the 29-point margin established at the end of the third quarter siren. The final score was 12.13 (85) to 8.6 (54) in favour of the away-team. Bridgetown also walked away with a win against Imperials on their home ground after an incredibly high-scoring match, 25. 14 (164) to 18.7 (115), while Kojonup secured their third win of the season after defeating Tigers at Rea Park.
