LSWFL: Imperials pip Tigers at the post, securing victory by a point

In a thrilling clash between the two Manjimup sides in round 13 at the weekend, Tigers were pipped at the post by Imperials by a point. The Lower South West Football League’s derby match at Rea Park had spectators on the edge of their seats for the entire 80 minutes, with Tigers — sixth on the ladder — giving the league’s second-most dominate side a run for their money. Imperials started strong, scoring 3.4 (22) to Tigers’ 1.3 (9) in the first quarter. However, the away team’s dominance seemingly ended there, with Tigers proving their fight and drive was worthy of a win in the second quarter. Incredible efforts by Tigers’ star player and captain Jozef Parkinson opened up some great forward opportunities getting his side back in the game. Tigers entered the second half trailing 4.7 (31) to 3.5 (23). Continuing the momentum, Tigers scored 3.2 (20) to Imperials’ 1.4 (10) in the third-quarter, putting the team in the lead for the first time to roaring applause on the sidelines. However, a Tigers win was not meant to be, with Imperials clinching the final goal of the match to secure the win. The final score was Imperials’ 7.14 (56) to Tigers’ 7.13 (55). Tigers’ best players included Conor Cole, Jed Edwards, Connor Edwards, Tyler Barnsby, Jozef Parkinson and Sam Salmeri, while Imperials’ best included Zachary Hall, Timothy Mayers, Charlie Waideman, Jordan Johnson, Jaxon Pitts and Tyler Ipsen. Also in round 13, Bridgetown defeated Deanmill 25.14 (164) to 10.5 (65), while Kojonup defeated Southerners 20.6 (126) to 11.6 (72).
