Globetrotters have secured themselves a place in the pool two netball grand final after defeating Cosmos by four points, 40 to 36. Manjimup Indoor Sports Pavilion was alive with excitement on Monday night when Globetrotters took on Cosmos in the preliminary final. Both teams started strongly, however, Globetrotters took the early lead, finishing the quarter two goals ahead, 11-9. Stretching their lead further with the help of some incredible defensive skills demonstrated by Ella Deadman and Rosie Hughes, Globetrotters managed to secure a six-goal lead going into half-time. Cosmos found a boost of energy in the third quarter and picked up the pace. Unfortunately, the pressure seemed to affect Cosmos who struggled to cleanly and effectively navigate their way through the midcourt. An accidental dropped ball and overshot pass allowed the Globetrotters to keep their six-goal lead. It was in the final quarter that Cosmos really found their footing. Cosmos’ Alison Roche began to sink some incredible long distance shots, fuelling her team’s drive. Unfortunately, despite winning the quarter with nine goals to Globetrotters’ seven, Cosmos still finished four goals behind. Globetrotters will proceed to the grand final on September 15 where they will take on Independents who topped the ladder leading into finals. In the other preliminary final, Magpies defeated South West Electrics 51-47, proceeding to the grand final on Friday when they will take on Magic.
