An almost six-figure investment is set to bring local council meetings to the Manjimup community’s fingertips as part of the State Government’s bid increase transparency, accountability and efficiency across local government. The Shire of Manjimup will install a new audio-visual system — totalling $94,888 — that will facilitate the livestreaming of ordinary council meetings to the wider community via the Shire’s website. The introduction of livestreaming is part of the State Government’s new legislative reforms across the local government sector which will be put in place in 2023. The cost of the audio-visual system was $70,488 — within the allocated budget — before the Shire identified that the current speaker system was not up to standard because of age and an inability to get replacement parts should the system break down in future. The additional $24,400 will be considered through future budget reviews. The Shire intends to repurpose the existing speaker system for use as a travelling audio system when council meetings are held outside of Manjimup.
