Save the date: Truffle Kerfuffle returns after a year’s hiatus for food lovers and holiday seekers

Ready your tastebuds for the Southern Forests’ ultimate winter escape for food lovers which will make a reappearance in 2023 in the heart of Australian truffle country. Truffle Kerfuffle is back after a year hiatus due to the pandemic from June 23 to 25 at Fonty’s Pool in Manjimup — the most prolific truffle growing region in the Southern Hemisphere — featuring the unmistakable heady, earthy truffle and an incredible array of prized regional produce. Next year’s event — supported by the State Government, Fonty’s Pool and the Shire of Manjimup — will be the perfect opportunity to recharge the soul and connect with like-minded people at an authentic country festival. Imagine candle lit long table feasts, decadent dishes laden with freshly harvested black truffle, intimate fireside cooking masterclasses with acclaimed chefs, truffle dog demonstrations and truffle hunts in orchards, an undercover marketplace brimming with locally grown produce and delicious morsels, wine sessions and spirit tastings, free cooking demonstrations and more. Tourism Minister Roger Cook said he welcomed the return of Truffle Kerfuffle as a key event in the gourmet food calendar. “This event not only highlights the world-class nature of Manjimup’s own truffles, but also brings thousands of visitors to the region and provides a fantastic base to explore Australia’s South West,” he said. “The WA Government is proud to support Truffle Kerfuffle for another two years through Tourism WA’s Regional Events Program to bring this amazing event back to the region next year.” From its initial beginnings in 2011, the not-for-profit community event has grown into a highlight on the Australian tourism calendar and is on the to-do list of many a traveller and gourmand. Chef, food writer and now Truffle Kerfuffle project manager Sophie Zalokar said the region’s truffles were revered around the world and there was much to celebrate. “The Southern Forests region’s soils and climate and its successful and hard-working truffle growers produce first class truffles, she said. “A truly unique gastronomic treasure and highlight of feasting during the winter season in Western Australia. Ms Zalokar said she was excited about her new role which included providing creative direction, curating the talent selection and working collaboratively with chefs, growers and the community.
