‘Wockey’ takes Manjimup by storm; new sport is bringing endless laughter and joy to town

‘Wockey’ has taken Manjimup by storm, quickly becoming a must-do Monday night activity for those looking to get active, meet people and try something new. Walking hockey was introduced to locals by Warren Women’s Hockey Association seven weeks ago and has since had more than 20 people sign up to the weekly hour-long sessions. The new sport has not only been a great introduction into an active lifestyle for many but has brought great joy and endless laughter to the participants. Because of its increasing popularity, wockey will continue through the winter season at Kearnan College, making use of their undercover area. The format of the game — modified to be a less physically demanding version of a typical hockey game — includes five to six people per side, a big, bright ball and a smaller pitch. Walking hockey is played every Monday at 5:30pm and all are welcome. Sticks can be provided.
