Violet Femmes dominated their A-grade games, while B-grade teams put on mixed performances during the Warren Women’s Hockey Association double-header round at the weekend for weeks five and six. In B-grade on Saturday, Violet Femmes had a cracking start to the game against Cougars, coming away with a 2-1 win. Goal scorers were Reanna Bennett and Lexie Green for Violet Femmes, and Olivia Waugh for Cougars. Game MVPs were Violet Femmes’ Debbie Booth and Liana Ellis, and Cougars’ Lisa Smith. Also in B-grade on Saturday, Nationals drew Robins nil-all, with outstanding performances by Robins’ Madeli Steyn and Bianca Steyn, and Nationals’ Stephanie Larsen. In B-grade on Sunday, Nationals drew Violet Femmes 1-1, while Robins drew Cougars 1-1. Game MVPs were Sydney Gibellini and Ella Drake from Nationals, Reanna Bennett from Violet Femmes, Madeli and Bianca Steyn from Robins’, and Katie Crosby from Cougars. Goal scorers included Nationals’ Gibellini, Robins’ Bianca Steyn and Cougars’ Jo Ramiro. In A-grade, Violet Femmes defeated Cougars on Saturday (1-0) before using their momentum to defeat Nationals on Sunday (3-2). Violet Femmes had several key players across the weekend, including Saturday’s MVPs Kayla Mizzi and Jenae Cawley, Sunday’s MVPs Sarah and Elora Streeter, Saturday’s goal scorer Jenae Cawley, and Sunday’s goal-scorers Lizzie Hurrel (2) and Nicki Campbell. In other A-grade news, Nationals drew Robins on Saturday (nil-all), however, Robins did not let the lack of win affect their efforts on Sunday, defeating Cougars 2-0 with both scores by star player Ashlee Chapman. Saturday MVPs were Robins’ Hannah Gibson and Geri Moore, and Nationals Stephanie Larsen. Sunday MVPs were Robins’ Shaz DeCampo and Moore, and Cougars’ Elle Ryan, with a special mention going to Cougars’ Jamie Spooner. Women’s hockey will return in week seven on June 10.
