The top two teams on the ladder went head-to-head on Wednesday night with the Barracudas coming out on top, defeating the Purple Cobras by two points in a close match. Barracudas started strongly with five points scored by Riley Hall, before Purple Cobras’ Jacob Henry helped narrow the lead with two goals, leaving the Barracudas by a point. Purple Cobras teammate Connor Tempra helped get the team in the lead, scoring two points during his free throws, with Barracudas now chasing down their lead. Barracudas were able to catch up, with goals by Braden Wilson, Riley Hall and Jakeb Burford, before a two-pointer by Samuel Tempra and a three-pointer by Tyson Jacob helped put Purple Cobras back in the lead. The two teams went back and forth, with the lead changing throughout and the teams eventually being tied near the end of the first half, before Purple Cobras’ Henry managed to get a goal to put them in the lead. However, within the last seconds of the first half, Barracudas’ Hall scored two points to end the half with both teams tied 22-22. In the second half, Barracudas’ Burford, David Doust and Wilson all scored three-pointers, getting them back in the lead. Purple Cobras’ Jacobs and Rohan Barber helped put a dent in the Barracudas’ lead, with Jacobs also scoring a three pointer, although the Barracudas’ would continue to dominate thanks to the work of Hudson Lyster and Wilson. The Barracudas continued to have a moderate lead until the last five minutes of the game, when Kallum East and Samuel Tempra managed to score several goals, narrowing Barracudas’ lead to a single point. Teammate Tyson Jacob managed to score on a free throw, tying the score, before Barracudas’ Riley Hall scored two points on his free throws in the last minute, helping the Barracudas seal their victory by two points with a final score of 42-40. In the other men’s A-grade matches, Hawkers beat Raiders 57-26 and Hawks A beat Wolfpack 35-31. In the men’s B-grade matches, Billy Goats beat Tropics 32-27, Dribblers beat Warriors 29-16 and Giants beat Redbacks 38-26. In the women’s A-grade matches, Sapphires beat Slam Drunks 29-28, Pink Ladies beat Panthers 45-35 and Aces beat Comets 23-22. In the women’s B-grade matches, Saints beat Bush Chooks 34-25, Magpies Orange beat Aus Stars 29-24 and Magpies Blue beat Astrix by forfeit.
