Bridgetown Repertory Club puts on Ronald Harwood’s Quartet as latest theatre production

The Bridgetown Repertory Club brought its latest production to the Bridgetown Repertory Theatre for two weekends. The Repertory Club debuted its latest production, Ronald Harwood’s play Quartet, on Thursday night, with plays going from July 13 to July 16, and July 20 to July 23. The play explore the friendships and experiences of four retired opera singers in a nursing home, when they are asked to recreate a quartet performance from the opera Rigoletto at a gala concert celebrating composer Giuseppe Verdi’s birthday. Robert Benson-Parry, Mark Moscarda, Sue Williams and Suzanne Bottomley take the stage as the four members of the quartet. Director Susie Benson-Parry said her decision to produce and direct the production came from watching it produced previously and choosing it because of its relevancy with audiences and her personal desire to produce it. “The show’s going absolutely beautifully,” she said. “I saw this play at the Limelight Theatre and I loved it, it’s so relevant to everybody and I wanted to produce it one day.” She said working with the cast and crew was easy and directing was not a difficult task for her to take on. “I’ve been in theatre since I was 18, so it was not a problem.” It’s been a privilege to direct this play with such an experienced cast and crew.” Ms Benson-Parry also said the story was “well-written and relevant” for those who are interested in watching the final shows. “It’s relevant to all of us and I hope everyone enjoys it as much as we have enjoyed putting it on,” she said. “It is entertaining, it’s about friendship, lost love and coming to terms with becoming old.”
