Country championships: Five Lower South West Football League players represent Regional Districts colts side

Five footballers from the Lower South West Football League took to the field in last week’s country championships last week as part of the Regional Districts colts side. Bridgetown’s Jacob Duncan and Sam Doherty joined Deanmill’s Kai McGinty and Manjimup Tigers products Conor Cole and Jed Edwards in representing the outfit, which is an amalgamation of associations who do not send a side themselves. The Dogs had a strong carnival, winning and losing two of their games to finish in fifth with a percentage of 167.4. They saved their best performance for the final game at Pinjarra’s Sir Ross McLarty Oval on Friday, stunning eventual finalist South West to run out 28-point winners, with Cole and McGinty each kicking a goal. The win was their second on the day after beating Avon-Mortlock by 44 points in their first fixture. Thursday saw the team suffer two narrow losses at Mandurah’s Lane Group Stadium, going down to both championship winners Peel and third-placed Great Southern by five points.
