Donnybrook pharmacist Rowan Lowe named best in the nation

A Donnybrook pharmacist has been recognised for his stellar service and leadership on a national level. Rowan Lowe, owner and head pharmacist at Donnybrook Amcal Pharmacy, has just been named pharmacist of the year at the National Pharmacist Summit in Hobart. Mr Lowe was nominated in four categories and also took out the leadership award. Staff member Kayley Bell-Bysouth was nominated in the collaboration category for her work with local aged-care providers. Mr Lowe said the award would provide motivation for his business and staff. “I feel very motivated to keep moving forward,” he said. “It has been wonderful to see how this has engaged the local community, their pride and reactions have been priceless. Mr Lowe has been working in the pharmaceutical industry for more than 15 years after receiving his Master of Pharmacy on the Gold Coast. He then moved to Perth, but has owned the Donnybrook Pharmacy for the past 12 years. Mr Lowe said the lessons learnt running a business in a small, regional town had been invaluable. “The biggest lessons I’ve learned over the years have been in people management,” he said. “I am continually learning how to be an effective leader, and to empower and engage my team to best set us all up for professional satisfaction and success. “One of the biggest rewards has been to watch the team thrive.” Mr Lowe said the factors which made his business a stand-out nationally was his team’s dedication to serving the regional population. “Our aim is for our community to be able to receive the healthcare they need here in Donnybrook, rather than having to travel to Bunbury or Perth,” he said. “We are always looking for health service gaps that we can add to our offering.”
