LSWFL: Boyup Brook Football Club prepare for League and Reserves teams to face off against Bridgetown

The Boyup Brook Football Club is gearing up for a tough challenge this weekend as their round one Lower South West Football League season sees them come up against last year’s grand final winners. The League and Reserves teams will be facing off against the Bridgetown Football Club on their home turf on Saturday afternoon. Boyup Brook Football Club president Lachlan Chilwell said the teams had been training since January and “showed good form” during a pre-season match against the Collie Eagles. “We’ve got a few new junior recruits and a lot of old faces back in, local boys who have taken some time off last year, and we’re looking pretty confident going into this season,” he said. “We’ve been pretty smooth sailing so far in the pre-season.” He said the teams’ matches against Bridgetown would be a challenge, given their status as the winner in the Reserves and runner-up in the League last year, but said their training should counteract the team’s strengths. “I think, obviously, we’re facing off Bridgetown this weekend and they’re last season’s runner-up in the grand final and they’ll be a formidable force. “A lot of the work we’ve done in the pre-season will be able to counteract much of what they can throw at us, and consistency in the Reserves will be key in remaining strong in the League side of things. “If we’ve got good Reserves numbers, that should give us some good training numbers on the track to play around with and have a strong League side as well.” Mr Chilwell said the club’s committee had gained members and promised entertainment after each home game during the LSWFL season. “We’ve got a strong committee on board with a lot of local people, and we’ve got our six home games this season. “With every home game, we’ll be providing some sort of entertainment on the nights, and will be good nights for our members to get out on, and a good social event for the community.”
