Manjimup celebrates the Women’s World Cup and the Matildas’ momentous match-ups

Manjimup was filled with excited patrons watching the Women’s World Cup finals, with the local pubs filled with fans excitedly anticipating the outcome of the Matildas’ historic finals matches. Fans were glued to the screen watching the Matildas against England in the semifinals on Wednesday night, then Sweden in the third place final on Saturday, as well as the cup final, in which Spain defeated England. The lights on Brockman Street were changed to both the colours of the Matildas and England’s women’s team on Wednesday, to commemorate the highly anticipated match-up, while Tall Timbers decorated the venue with streamers and balloons ahead of the match. Both the Gateway Hotel and Tall Timbers Sports Bar had groups of avid sport fans cheering on the Matildas as the games played on their TV screens during the evening, with both venues having drink specials and special food items available.. An average audience of 7.2 million across Australia watched the Matildas semifinal match against England, making it the most watched program in more than two decades, while 3.38 million watched the Matildas playoff against Sweden on Saturday night.
