Manjimup repertory club prepares to bring Alice in Wonderland to stage this weekend

A South West repertory club will take audiences down the rabbit hole over two weekends with their production of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Directed by Andrea Miolin and Maree Rooney, the Manjimup Repertory Club will host six shows with a cast of 34 children and four adults. Rooney said creating the show had taken about three months, with the cast growing and improving over that time. “It’s been very interesting to see a young cast that’s never been on stage before, coming along and growing as actors,” she said. “It’s been wonderful to see the group of teenagers we’ve had for several years come on stage and shine from the experience they had before.” This year’s production marks the second time the duo have directed the show, having previously done it a decade ago. Rooney said the show’s constant relevance and popularity waswhy they decided to direct it once more. “Andrea and I did this ten years ago and it was wonderful,” she said. “It was really lovely, and we thought this generation of kids hadn’t seen it, so we thought it was good to revisit that. “We just thought it was time to have it again, and I think the interest that was shown, especially in the auditions, proved that it is something that is popular and what people want to see.” The show will take to the stage from September 5 to 15.
