Manjimup Repertory Club to deliver a ‘Sweet Selection’ for theatre enthusiasts

The Manjimup Repertory Club is bringing a sweet selection of plays to its theatre this weekend. An collection of six short comedies, titled Sweet Selection, is hitting the Repertory Theatre’s stage from July 21 to 23. The plays include Hairdressers’ Code, Members Only, 5 Eggs, The Goods, The Antiquities Roadshow and Anzac Biscuits, with all being about 10 minutes, except for Anzac Biscuits, which will be 35 minutes. The assortment of plays “takes a lighthearted look at life from conception to death and beyond and includes stories of murder, infidelity, grannies and chocolates”, according to show co-ordinator Andrea Miolin. She said the cast and crew had fun during the rehearsals and were excited to take to the stage. “We are especially delighted to welcome new faces to the stage and to enable some of our younger members to gain experience in backstage and technical roles.” “Audiences will be entertained by the mix of new and familiar actors.” New actors to the stage include Petrina Thomsett, Sarah Ipsen, Nicole Prestedge, Michael Smith, Arthur Rifkin and Zane Stein. Ms Miolin said first time director Catherine Bamess had shown great talent in her staging of Hairdressers’ Code, a short play that explores the topic of client confidentiality, even in the event of murder. Repertory Club president Gareth Evans said the cast and crew’s teamwork had benefited the rehearsal process and the final stages of the productions. “The combined casts and crew of Sweet Selection have done a brilliant job in bringing this production together,” he said. The show is being held over one weekend only and contains adult themes, sexual references and mild coarse language.
