Preparations for 134th iteration of Bridgetown’s beloved annual show get under way

The 134th iteration of Bridgetown’s beloved agricultural show is under way with preparations and planning, leading up to November 25, when members of the community will be able to enjoy a day of exhibits and activities. The Bridgetown Show will be making its return at the Bridgetown Showgrounds in less than two weeks. There’ll be a plethora of activities, food trucks, competitions and exhibitions with a multicultural celebration being the show’s theme this year. Bridgetown Agricultural Society president Keith Gutteridge said planning had gone well, immediately starting to set up after campers from the Blues at Bridgetown festival left the showgrounds. “We’ve got just under two weeks until the show on the weekend and we’ve started setting up straight away after the (Blues at Bridgetown) weekend,” he said. “We’ve got a full house with the stalls and sideshow rides, and everything else, it’s been full-on going ahead with the plans and getting everyone in the right place.” He hopes the show will be as popular as last year’s event, anticipating at least 2000 attendees at the Saturday show. “We’re hoping for over 2000 people, depending on the weather if it’s too hot or too wet, it makes a difference,” he said. “We had about the same number at last year’s show, so it would be nice to get that attendance.” He noted some new rides and a variety of food trucks, to help highlight the show’s theme of multiculturalism, as highlights he is excited for and hopes the public will enjoy as well. “We’ve got a brand new thrill ride this year, the Zipper, and it’s going on the end of the showgrounds, so hopefully that’s popular.” “The theme this year is ‘multicultural’ and I hope visitors like foreign food, because we’ve got a range of food trucks this year.” He said he was especially excited for the different food that will be on offer for visitors. “I’m a great fan of foreign food, so I’m happy to try everything that’s available,” he said. “Malaysian, Singaporean, Indian, Moroccan, you name it, we’ve got it this year.” Mr Gutteridge said there would be plenty of free activities for families to do throughout the day, and plenty of competitions and performers to watch, including log chopping, music performances and even a mariachi band performance. “There’s a charge to come in, but children can come for free, and once you’re in, there are so many free things all around the ground,” he said. “There’s things you can do for nothing and the show rides are discounted, so for a full day of entertainment, it’s cheap for all of the family.”
