The Blackwood Wine Show will return to Nannup after the Shire council agreed to a third year of sponsorship. Now in its 20th year, the annual show features growers and producers from the Blackwood Valley Wine Industry Association which covers Nannup, Balingup, Boyup Brook and Bridgetown. Nannup Shire president Tony Dean said it was important for council to “encourage primary industries in the area” and support the local wine producers with the $4664 sponsorship. “We managed to snap it from the Bridgetown shire,” he said. “The committee approached us three years ago and if we would be happy to sponsor, since a lot of the producers in the show are from our region including Nannup Valley, Nannup Ridge along with other areas in Nannup. “We’re happy to provide our facilities and the judging facility is good and goes off without a hitch, and it’s another string in our bow, we want to encourage primary industries in the area.” The annual wine show aims at showcasing the premium wines being tailor-made by boutique producers and offers the public the chance to taste them. The Nannup Shire council unanimously approved the sponsorship at its August 31 meeting. Initially the association had requested $4700 to help pay for four days of venue hire at the community meeting room and function centre, along with two nights accommodation for the seven judges and four associate judges. For providing sponsorship the shire is recognised with naming rights for two of the most prestige trophies, being the Shire of Nannup most successful boutique exhibitor and Shire of Nannup best Wine of show along with three cartons of show wines. In addition, the Shire logo is also used on all event promotional material and entry forms, shire promotional banners are displayed during the event, and the shire and town is featured in social media promotional opportunities.
