Speedway brings thrills to Manjimup on Saturday night as 2023 comes to a close

The Manjimup Speedway was roaring as cars hit the dirt track on Saturday night, with plenty of thrilling entertainment in Manjimup’s last speedway event of 2023. Attendees were able to enjoy numerous rounds of races from street stock sedans, V8 dirt modified cars, Formula 500s and junior races on Saturday night in the season’s third round, with three rounds of races and feature events. Augusta-Margaret River Top-Star Thomas Host and Manjimup’s Lara Edwards went head-to-head in the junior club division race. Meanwhile, seven New Star racers, which included visitors Millie Fairbrass from Margaret River and Pemberton’s Zac Favero, went up against each other for the New Star title. In the Top Star juniors category, Host took the honours while Edwards took second place. In the New Stars junior category, Khalen Cutts was named the winner, with Teale Cutts named runner-up and Favero came in third place. The junior Formula 500s brought noise and thrills to the junior races, with an unstoppable Chloe Newmarch taking the win for the category, with Logan Dean and Max Lang also ending up on the podium after a nailbiting finish. In the street stock sedans David Fall was victorious, with Ron Pocock coming in a close second and Reece Jones following in third in a showstopping display of action throughout the night. Kristen Falconbridge was unstoppable in the V8 modified category, taking the win for the night, beating Greg Badger and Mark King, who placed on the podium with her. In the final category of the night, the Formula 500s took to the race track, with Manjimup’s Alfie Guadagnino racing alongside 18 other drivers for both a spot in the finals and then for the win. In the end, Guadagnino took third place, behind runner-up Brendan Marshman and champion Chris Dymock as the night came to a close. The next speedway event will start in the new year, with limited sprintcars taking to the track on January 13, along with the regular club divisions.
