Manjimup Rovers defeated Australind 2-1 in round six of the South West Soccer Association at Manjimup on Sunday. The Rovers began the match with high energy and a strong defence, being able to prevent Australind’s attempts to attack and score, while improving their chances at goal. The Rovers scored their first goal at the 20 minute mark when Tom Anstey was able to pass a contested ball to Lazarus Mandikonza, however it did not stop there for the Rovers. Jack Silas scored another goal for Rovers, 15 minutes later, with Silas running a rebound and putting it through the keeper’s legs to continue the Rovers’ lead into half-time, despite some misses from the Rovers. The second half saw a tight match with the Rovers keeping their connecting play and strength in all areas going, while the Australind team focused on making a comeback and shifting the tide in their favour. Several saves from Australind and near misses from Rovers saw the Rovers’ game become stagnant before a goal from Callum Yates narrowed the margin between the two teams. However the Rovers were able to hold on to their lead long enough to take the win against Australind with a final score of 2-1. Meanwhile in Harvey, Eaton-Dardanup beat home team Harvey Hawks in a clean sweep 4-0.
