The Manjimup Rovers men’s team played away on Sunday, defeating the Bunbury Dynamos 2-0. The Rovers travelled to Bunbury with no substitute players available to go head-to-head with the Bunbury Dynamos in a game that had odds stacked against them. During a tough and stagnant first half, a referee had to be attended to after receiving a hard ball to the face early on. Both teams had occasional periods of strong attacks, however their stronger defences foiled all attempts at attack and goals, leaving both teams with no goals by half-time. After the break, the Rovers’ improved their possession and passing and with 20 minutes to go were rewarded with a goal to Tom Anstey, who broke through the Dynamos’ defences thanks to great work from teammates Rita Solomon and Cak Rashid. With a goal on the board, Rovers were able to relax a bit while the Dynamos had the challenge of replying but struggled to make shots with the opportunities they had. The Rovers made it 2-0 after Solomon got the ball to Astey, who threaded it to Cak Rashid to hit what proved to be the winner. Next week the men’s team have a bye, while the women’s team play at home to Hay Park. Meanwhile, Hay Park defeated home team Eaton-Dardanup 2-0 in their match.
