Parts of WA are set to sweat through a scorching first weekend of 2026 with temperatures expected to climb past 40C.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a heatwave warning for the Pilbara, Gascoyne, Goldfields, Eucla, North and South Interior and the Central Wheatbelt.

Harsh heat will hit those areas over the weekend and continue to creep up to the mid forties by the start of next week.

Meteorologist Angus Hines said sunshine is in store for most of WA, with severe conditions sweeping across large parts of the State.

“Temperatures will be about the mid thirties across the west coast and that will rise to about 40C for the Wheatbelt, Great Southern and parts of the interior,” he said.
