Nepal-Tibet floods live updates: Nearly 2,000 missing, including 41 Aussies, amid desperate rescue mission

Army soldiers in Nepal have waded through thick mud in a race to free people trapped inside a tunnel at a hydroplant.

“As far as I can see, it’s nothing but debris,” rescue official Zou Mingqi told state media.

Dramatic vision, posted by Nepal Prime Minsiter Balendra Shah, shows the moment rescuers pull trapped workers from the tunnel.

The number of people mssing in Nepal has now doubled to nearly 2000.

According to Nepal’s Natural Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, at least 1,924 people are unnaccounted for.

The death toll has now reached 584.

There are now 41 Australians who are unaccounted for in Nepal, after it was reported there were 39 missing Aussies on Friday.

This total number excludes Australian Cara Severino, who was able to make contact with her parents, Debbie and Frank Severino, on Friday morning.

It is believed the 26-year-old was hiking in the Langtan National Park with “some other Nepalese hikers” when the floods crashed through the region on Wednesday.
