Mills St murder: GoFundMe page launched to support 12-year-old victim of family violence

A Perth family is rallying behind a 12-year-old girl at the centre of a deadly family violence incident that unfolded last week.

Bentley residents were left shaken last Tuesday when a teenage boy allegedly killed his 35-year-old mother and seriously injured his younger sister at a property on Mills Street.

The sister — a 12-year-old girl — was found in a serious condition 600m from the home, with CCTV showing what appears to be the minor fleeing down Albany Highway to call the police.

The deceased woman’s teen son has since been charged over the tragedy.

As the community grieves the beloved mum’s death, the family of the young survivor has launched an urgent appeal to the public.

Relatives of the 12-year-old have established a GoFundMe to help financially navigate the unexpected costs the family is now facing.

While the family is unable to comment on the ongoing criminal investigation, they have said they hope to “support (the young girl) as she begins to rebuild her life following the heartbreaking loss of her mum”.

The family shared in the fundraiser that the 12-year-old would be moving in with extended family following the tragic passing of her mum.

According to the page, all proceeds from the GoFundMe will go towards essential needs such as clothing and bedding for the minor as she relocates, in addition to paying for the ongoing therapy she needs due to her trauma.

Donations will also be used to sort practical expenses related to the Mills St property, including the hiring of a skip bin and “other necessary tasks during this difficult time”.

While there is little information on how the minor is recovering following the attack, the family has shared that she “faces a long road ahead — both physically and emotionally”.

“With a family already struggling and now tasked with funeral expenses, we also hope to ease the burden so the family can farewell the beautiful mum whose life was tragically taken too soon,” the tween’s relatives wrote on the page.

“Every contribution will make a meaningful difference and help provide some stability as the family navigates the difficult months ahead.”

The fundraiser has reached $1,600 of their $4,500 goal in five days.
