Sharks survived a late Slam Drunks comeback to win 21-19 in a top-of-the-table women’s A-grade thriller. A 10-2 Sharks run either side of half time had them in control of the contest, leading by seven points early in the second half. Slam Drunks refused to go down and peeled off a 9-3 run of their own, capped off by a three-pointer from Sharni Harris to reduce the margin to just two points with only two minutes to go. Sharks’ Chyenne Forrest responded with a long bomb of her own to restore her side’s buffer but two more quick buckets for Harris closed the gap to a solitary point. Lacey Holdsworth split a pair of free throws to get Sharks’ lead back out to two points, with some late Slam Drunks desperation on the buzzer not enough to tie the scores. In the other women’s A-grade fixtures, Sapphires beat Aces 21-12 and Panthers defeated Comets 17-14, while Astrix knocked off Aus Stars 36-25, Senators got over Magpies Orange 32-24, and Saints won out against Magpies Blue 29-23 in the women’s B-grade contests. The men’s competitions saw some big wins with 48 and 40-point victories for Purple Cobras and Hawks over Yabbies and Warriors respectively, while Raiders toppled Billy Goats 45-30, Barracudas beat Hawkers 63-37, Wolfpack edged Tropics 41-39, and Giants and Redbacks played out a 34-all draw.
